Design

The Garden of Beneficence combines contemporary landscape architecture with traditional Chinese garden design principles.

From the beginning, the Wellington Chinese Garden Society envisioned the garden being a symbol of Wellington’s emerging reality as a multicultural city. To contrast itself with Dunedin’s beautiful Chinese Garden, Lan Yuan (蘭園), the society decided it would pursue a contemporary landscape garden design while incorporating traditional Chinese garden design principles.
